Sneezing, runny nose, fever, nausea, and body ache are just some of the symptoms you get when you are sick. When you become sick, you feel miserable and want to sleep. Therefore, it is practically impossible to be able to get anything done. You have to take a day off from work and then fall behind and even though you are at home, you can’t get any of your household work done either. With all of that, you wish that you had never gotten sick in the first place.
Everybody wants to be healthy and nobody likes being sick. Yet most people do not take proper care of themselves, get sick, and then complain about how sick they are. All illnesses, whether it’s a cold or cancer, arise from an imbalance in the physiology. It is much easier to take care of yourself than it is to recover from your illness.
Therefore, the secret to staying healthy is prevention. Prevention is always better than cure. If you take care of yourself to begin with, then you never have to worry about getting sick. There are three key factors for preventing any illness from occurring. They are diet, sleep, and happiness. Each is dependent upon the other and if all three are balanced, then the chances of getting sick are basically non-existent.
Diet is very important. Our bodies operate according to what we ingest. The old saying, “we are what we eat” is absolutely true. Our outer reflects the inner and the inner reflects the outer. Diet is essential to the proper functioning of our physiology and we must be sure to have enough intake of fruits, veggies, carbohydrates, fiber, and so on.
Next is sleep. We must never neglect sleep because sleep at night is the time in which our bodies have the chance to do the clean up from the day and repair our bodies. The body is most effective in removing toxins of the day while the body is asleep. You should get enough sleep every night. Lack of sleep weakens the immune system, which makes you more susceptible to illnesses.
Proper sleep and balanced diet will lead to increased immunity and overall better health. With enough rest and good food, you will also feel happier and will experience less stress upon your body because you will have enough “fuel” to get through the day.
Happiness is also a key factor to staying healthy. Those who are not happy and are sad for any reason are more likely to fall sick. Laughter is also one of the best healing mechanisms. Laughter is the best remedy regardless of which disease you are suffering from.

I am such a morning person now that I have learned the secret of the doshas when it comes to waking up.. Go to bed early… and waking by 5:30 am gives you so much more energy then waking up at 6:30… I am so lethargic all day long if I wake up at 8.. but my internal clock is so on routine now I wake up before the alarm clock goes off.. like 5am I open my eyes and just lay there enjoying the morning while slowly waking up.. I love the mornings.. I wake up 3.5 hours early every day just so I can enjoy my mornings..
my stress level has dropped 50%…
little things make such a difference, no?

Funny, the one day I stay up until 2am I get a cold. I’m usually in bed by 10p and up by 6a to do my yoga practice.
